MartinH_bronze-744x1024In the November 2012 series of LAMDA examinations in Swindon,

Fergus Drysdale achieved a very remarkable success when he earned a Merit pass in the Grade VII – Silver Medal examination for The Speaking of Verse and Prose.  Not so long ago, candidates were expected to be age 17 to attempt this grade and fergus has achieved this level 3 NVQ equivalent award when only 13!  Very well done, Fergus!  Many people will recall his appearances in all four of the TV series, “L:ark Rise to Candleford”.  He currently is appearing at The Bristol Hippodrome with the national tour of “Oliver”.

Martin Hiscock gained an excellent pass with Distinction [the top level of achievement] for his first-ever attempt at a LAMDA examination.  As pictured here, he is now the proud owner of a Bronze Medal – Grade V!/NVQ 3 – for Speaking in Public.

His speech on “The Fourth Emergency Service” was one of the best an Xpress train student has ever delivered.  Very well done, Martin.  Maybe a Silver medal soon?

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art

Saturday, March 6th, 2010

There are some significant changes from previous syllabi. Please note that the grade ranges have been reduced and the entry level age bands raised. The highest award is now designated “Distinction” and there is no longer an award of “Honours”.

The NEW SYLLABUS [2009 +] was published in March 2009 and remains current. A positive benefit is that the exams are approved by QCA, Northern Ireland and the Welsh Curriculum Authority and so they have Government validation for NVQ (National Vocational Qualifications) equivalence at Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced levels.

UCAS Points will be awarded for achievements of Pass, Merit or Distinction at grades VI to VIII for those entering examinations from 2008 onwards.

Entries had formerly to be made at least 4 weeks before the published date for the exams at a centre. Entries for ALL examinations must now be made – at the LATEST – SIX weeks before the session date.

SWINDON’S NEXT SESSION is being held on Saturday, 23rd June 2012 from 09.30 – 18.30.

ENTRY FEES rise annually and details of the current fees charged for the examinations held in public centres between 1st August 2012 and 31st July 2013 are now available together with the dates for each centre.

Testimonials

Below you can find some testimonials from previous happy clients.

  • My daughters’ wedding was quickly approaching and I was definitely not looking forward to making my Father of the Bride speech. So on my wife’s’ insistence I trawled the internet in the hope of finding someone locally to give me some tuition in speaking in front of an audience. Then I found the Xpress Train Ltd website.

After an initial meeting with Godfrey I found him very easy to work with and with his help my speech was formed.

His patience and persistence to make me use the right intonation and leave pauses in just the right places was quite a challenge, but with more lessons it became easier.

On the day the nerves were kept at bay and the speech was delivered almost without fault and the jokes went down a storm. I received many comments on how well my speech was delivered, but most of the praise must go to Godfrey for his help and guidance.

I would definitely recommend Godfrey to anyone who is unaccustomed to making speeches. If you are in the same predicament as I found myself a few months ago you won’t regret asking for help.

    Bernard Harvey

    Chippenham

  • Godfrey has provided creative, differentiating ideas during preparation, backed up by solid, dependable coaching for effective delivery during practice, so resulting in high quality, confidently delivered presentations.

I can confidently recommend Godfrey Room’s services to professionals wanting to achieve excellence in their public speaking and presentations.

    - Richard Perris, Bank of America

  • What I want to say is that Godfrey is an expert in his area and is a very interesting person to deal with. His training is very good both for native English speakers and for complete foreigners like me.

I met Godfrey last year in Swindon where he gave us a speech training.

It was fun and a pleasant experience to have met him.

    - Leo Zukov

  • Superb trainer in public speaking. Focussed on results and determined to make you improve, I wholeheartedly recommend Godfrey!

    - Andy Large, IT Senior Project Manager

  • Godfrey taught me more about how to use my voice, my breathing and my passion in one hour than I’d learnt on all previous “public speaking courses” – I would often get a sore voice and a painful back when presenting for more than three days in a week – but not after my sessions with Godfrey – As a voice coach and public speaking trainer he is head & shoulders above the others I’ve met. As a person – he is warm. professional, has a dry wit, is very intelligent and an all round good chap.

    - Bob Hayward, Managing Director at Be More Effective Ltd

  • I would like to express in words the exceptional skills and capability Godfrey has in helping people to prepare for a job interview. The context of my testimony is as follows –

I was employed with PricewaterhouseCoopers for over five years before starting my own business three years ago. It had been at least eight years since I had been called for a formal interview. I was nervous and unsure of what questions I would be asked, let alone mentally prepared and in a position to really sell my experience and capabilities to the prospective employer.

The interview request had arrived very quickly since making the application and I had literally days to get ready for 2 intensive interview panels. Godfrey first helped me to think through the job description and structure their requirements in a completely different way than I had considered. As a result the structure rapidly identified the key points and the employers focus / needs. This helped me to structure likely questions and prepare for those questions. In this respect a second session with Godfrey the day before the interview helped to polish my response to some extremely well thought through and difficult questions posed by Godfrey. What really impressed me was Godfrey’s ability to ask highly relevant questions that where specific to that client and their industry, not the usually generic type of questions you get in the books (even the better books like, “Tough Answers to Interview Questions”).

The result – on the day, I was told that I was the best person they had interviewed. They had a difficult choice between me and an internal candidate who knew the business. The decision process went to a second round and lasted a further two weeks. Unfortunately I was not offered the role because ultimately it was decided that internal knowledge of the company’s systems and processes was a higher priority over the skills and competencies described in the job profile which I had in abundance. Although the final result was that I did not secure the job, the testimony of being the best person they interviewed (this coming from all three Directors) is to me testimony to Godfrey’s excellent coaching and support in preparing me for interview in 4 days.

Thank you, Godfrey and please do not hesitate to use his services.

    - Paul Etheridge, Chief Executive: Newation Limited

  • As a senior manager … I have employed Xpress Train on several occasions to provide assistance with the preparation, practice and delivery of conference presentations. Most recently, Xpress Train helped me prepare a detailed presentation which I successfully delivered at the international ..*.. Conference to over 100 telecoms industry delegates in Amsterdam.

My experience is that Xpress Train provides creative, differentiating ideas during preparation, backed up by solid, dependable coaching for effective delivery during practice, so resulting in high quality, confidently delivered presentations.

I can confidently recommend Godfrey Room’s services to businesses committed to achieving excellence in their public speaking and presentations.

    - Alan Gibson, Senior Manager in an international telecommunications company

  • I recently did another pivotal presentation at a Business conference, in preparation for which Godfrey coached me. … I had positive feedback from several directors, one of whom said my presentation was ‘exceptional’ and another said that my confidence and clarity reminded them of a TV presenter. Having my performance endorsed in this way only confirms that the training I have undergone has been a huge success.

I have recently asked Godfrey to help me improve my ability to influence and create impact in meetings … and as usual the results have been swift and extremely positive.

The training process I have experienced has been surprisingly enjoyable and has successfully delivered on the objectives I set out with and more. Consequently I would recommend Godfrey and Xpress Train to anyone who wants to improve their communication skills.

    - Lisa – Commercial Financial Manager of a major, high street, national company

  • I would like to thank you for all of your help during the past 8 months.

I came to you in January with a speech impediment which I have had for most of my life, and I was asking for your help to overcome my concern with regard to making a speech at my daughter’s wedding.

You not only advised and coached me with the wedding speech, for which I received compliments but you also helped me to overcome my speech impediment on a daily basis. After years of stammering in just 8 months you have coached me to speak fluently and by your excellent teaching methods I now feel confident to speak in any situation.

I cannot thank you enough for the help and confidence which you have given to me, and I have no hesitation in recommending you in the future.

    - Tony – Financial Director of a major transport company

  • I must tell you that all the work you did on my voice continues to benefit my career. It must be still working because yesterday I was told by a BBC World Service producer that my voice is perfect for radio!

    - Trevor – Barrister at Law

  • I wanted, as promised, to send you a note to thank you for your entertaining presentation on Wednesday. I believe that I am an experienced presenter with good diction but you made me feel like an amateur – in the nicest possible way, making me laugh in the process. Quite an achievement.

    - Jeremy Martin – Imica Business Consultants Ltd

  • I would like to pass on my thanks to you, for the training you have given me. I have found the training rewarding and helpful in securing a position within management.

The speech training has given me excellent insights in how to improve my speech and tone down my regional accent. The speech training has also helped me with improvements to my written English.

I would like to add, that if anyone is deciding to take their career forward in management then Xpress Train Ltd is definitely the company to call for a professional and friendly service.

    - Steve Jefferies, Technical Services Manager

  • Hi Godfrey, the quick 5 min training you did with me at the last Network event, really did the trick at my talk the next day; you totally changed my focus from Me to, what do I want the audience to think, feel, do, bring back home from my delivery; also the common ground concept and find the pain, made a huge difference. The result, I was confident, relaxed yet strong, powerful and sensitive in the delivery and it worked super. Friends got up afterward and said ‘I didn’t know you were such a good speaker!’ Thanks Godfrey.

    - Peter Svensson

  • Just wanted to let you know that Joanna has been offered a place at Oxford, at Pembroke, her chosen college.

She’s really thrilled! We are both very grateful to you for your coaching. She says it definitely helped and made a strong difference. Many thanks again.

    - Diana Railton

  • I write to thank you for your help regarding my speaking to groups, as well as at social events. I have had difficulty with projecting my voice for several years and it felt like the more I tried the worse it became. With the techniques I have learned from you during our sessions, I am now more relaxed at these events and can be heard better, so I enjoy them more. A big thank you for encouraging me and giving me the confidence to try out different approaches for my 60-second talks both at BNI and at other meetings. ….With kind regards!
